Our bottles & tubes
Sustainability through recyclable materials
Our bottles and tubes stand for innovative sustainability and maximum recyclability. Our ketchup bottles made of HDPE are available in sizes of 300 ml, 500 ml and 800 ml and are 99% recyclable. Through mechanical recycling, they can be reused in many ways - for example as tubes, blown film or flower pots. We are also developing chemical recycling processes that break down even mixed plastics into their chemical components and make them usable for new applications. In this way, we at Hela are setting a strong example for environmentally friendly packaging solutions. The "Platina 250 Pro" tubes are made of thin HDPE monomaterial with a barrier content of less than 5 %, which both reduces the environmental impact and facilitates recycling. In terms of design, we also deliberately avoid finishes such as embossed foil in order to further promote sustainability.
Our small packs & buckets
Efficient packaging solutions
At Hela, we focus on innovative and environmentally friendly solutions - from small packs to large containers. Our small packs of spice ketchup are made from Super7 garden compostable film. This film made of paper, cellulose and a chemically modified polymer mixture is DIN-tested, TÜV-certified and FSC-certified - a sustainable step that meets the highest standards. Our 5 kg and 10 kg buckets are also made entirely from recyclable material, including the label and lid. In 2023, we replaced the 12-liter canisters with these buckets to significantly reduce plastic consumption, storage space and CO₂ emissions. Hela thus combines functionality and sustainability at all levels.

Why we do without glass
Although glass is often seen as an environmentally friendly alternative, it is not the most sustainable choice for Hela. The production and recycling of glass requires large amounts of energy and causes significant CO₂ emissions. In addition, the weight of glass bottles increases fuel consumption during transportation. Food safety also plays a role in our production: glass carries the risk of contamination from splinters.
Bioplastics: Challenges and limits
Bio-plastics are currently not a suitable option for our packaging. They are often made from foodstuffs such as sugar cane or corn, which require large amounts of water, fertilizer and acreage to grow. In addition, they do not offer the product protection that our customers expect. However, we are continuously working to find sustainable alternatives that meet our requirements.

Our commitment to continuous improvement
At Hela, our work on sustainable packaging never ends. We regularly question our decisions, test new solutions and adapt to technological advances. Whether recyclable HDPE bottles or optimized transport packaging - our goal remains to protect the environment while ensuring the quality of our products.
